Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 24 (The Street Press India) – The Vocational Higher Secondary Schools (VHSS) will no longer be there, as the state government plans to combine vocational studies with regular education. Starting from class 5, students will now dive into a curriculum that includes practical skills. This smart move aims to prepare students for jobs right after finishing class 12.

A preliminary suggestion has been put forth, proposing valuable changes. To enhance these reforms, a team of experts recommends the establishment of skill development centers throughout the state.

The VHSE has been aligning itself with the National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF), ensuring relevance. The course content consistently evolves to stay in sync with the latest trends.

With the reforms, vocational teachers’ positions will transition to a vanishing category. Importantly, these adjustments will not impact permanently appointed teachers currently in service.

NCERT plans to launch a new curriculum for higher secondary education from 2026. In these changes, VHSEs will merge with the existing higher secondary schools. Vocational teachers will transition to skill development centers and other schools accordingly.
