Earthquake with 5.6 Magnitude Strikes Bangladesh, Causes Tremors in Bengal

The West Bengal Disaster Management Department has indicated that there are no reported damages from any part of the state at this moment.

Kolkata, Dec 02 (The Street Press India) – On Saturday morning, a 5.6 magnitude earthquake in Bangladesh caused noticeable shaking in different areas of West Bengal. The National Center for Seismology reports that the earthquake occurred in southeastern Bangladesh at a depth of 55 km around 9:05 am.

The NCS reported, “Earthquake of Magnitude: 5.6, Occurred on 02-12-2023, 09:05:31 IST, Lat: 23.15 & Long: 90.89, Depth: 55 Km, Location: Bangladesh, India”.

The West Bengal Disaster Management Department has stated that, so far, there are no reports of damage in the state. An official mentioned to PTI, “We are yet to get the final report. As of now, there is no report of any damage due to the quake.”

Both the Calcutta Police and the Calcutta Municipal Corporation officials confirm that there are no reports of damage to life or property in the eastern metropolis.
