Kolkata, Dec 28 (The Street Press India) – Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister, accused the CPI(M) and Congress, key allies in the Opposition INDIA bloc, of working with the BJP in West Bengal. She emphasized that the TMC is committed to leading the battle against the saffron camp in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in the eastern state.
Speaking to a crowd of party workers in Deganga, North 24 Parganas district, the TMC leader emphasized the BJP’s tendency to label opposition figures as “thieves.” She argued that the country has shifted into a “democracy run by central agencies.”
“The CPI(M), BJP, and the Congress have forged an alliance in West Bengal and are actively campaigning against us. The INDIA Opposition alliance will confront the saffron camp nationwide, with the TMC spearheading the battle against the BJP in West Bengal,” stated Mamata.
Reaching out to a significant population in the district, many originally from neighboring Bangladesh, Banerjee accused the BJP of exploiting the citizenship issue for political advantage.
“The BJP is exploiting the citizenship issue for its political agenda. It is misleading the people on the issue. Previously, district magistrates decided citizenship matters, but now those powers have been stripped away from them. If people lack citizenship, how are they accessing government schemes and services?” questioned Mamata.
Banerjee’s remarks closely followed Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement on Tuesday, asserting that the implementation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act cannot be stopped as it is the law of the land. Shah also accused Banerjee of providing misleading information on the issue.
